Who Built The Eiffel Tower

Paris, the capital of France is known to have one of the most significant modern pieces of architecture called the Eiffel tower. Now who built the eiffel tower could be the first question that comes in mind after this. To know who built the eiffel tower, we must go back at the days of building the same.

A worlds fair was to be arranged in 1889 in order to celebrate one hundred years of French revolution. For that, the French government needed a monument or tower to be built as a memory of the fair. There were quite a lot of competitors who proposed various designs and submitted them. Of all those, Gustave Eiffel's iron tower was chosen. It did fulfill all the criterias and purposes that were intended for such a tower. For example, the tower had to be easily dismantled since the permit for that tower was only for twenty years. It was later when the government decided that it was valuable enough to be left untouched for communication purposes. Maurice Koechlin was the structural designer of the tower. It was built by three hundred workers in two years using 18,038 pieces of very pure puddle iron pieces.

Gustave Eiffel was the person who made the building of Eiffel tower happen despite all the criticism over the two years building period of the tower. He was very cautious about the safety of the tower and the workers and only one worker died during the construction time. The tower itself is nothing but an open structure with only two stages. Unlike other skyscrapers, it is not a building in itself. But it is one of the most significant piece of modern architecture and also a piece of art in iron. Among other remarkable works of Gustave Eiffel, the core of Statue of Liberty is one worth mentioning. He was an architect, master of metal works and combined architecture and art.
